BEHIND:

SCI-CITY

Sci-City is the brainchild of 5 students from Queensland University of Technology. Sci-City was a project they developed to pitch to client, World Science Festival. With future updates and expansions planned, the team hope to bring Sci-city to a larger scale soon.

Sci-City is a game that aims to teach younger demographics (including school aged children up to teenagers) different elements (aspects) of science education and provide an engaging and entertaining experience. With a digital 8-bit game design, Sci-City is simplistic but has much on offer for users as they begin their science learning and start building their cities of science. Cartoon designs are often enjoyable and attractive. The 8-bit design is attractive, engaging, uncomplicated and has charming elements.

The characters including non-playable characters (NPC) and avatars are native Australian animals; they are; snake, wombat, koala, crocodile and echidna. A turtle appears as a tribute to the turtle hatchery, an exhibit run by World Science Festival Brisbane as a loggerhead turtle preservation effort. Sci-City offers mini games (science related) within the game (e.g. quizzes) for the player to learn and as a means to build their city of science. Players win the mini game and earn coins/gold to purchase buildings to expand and grow their city.
